Why Were We Targeted?

Why Were We Targeted?

A year ago, my business partner and I were written up, accused, and eventually removed from a company we helped build. We were called liars, thieves, and criminals.

The reasons given: holding retreats, running programs, educating people, building a platform — all things that were supposedly against policy.

And for a year, I stayed silent. Tammy had signed the NDA, I was not given one. I walked away. I focused on building something new.

But here is what I have been watching from the sidelines:

The same programs we were accused of running? Others are running them. Openly. Unscathed.

The retreats we were written up for? Others are holding them. No consequences.

The education platforms we built? Others are building the exact same thing. No one says a word.

So the question is not whether we broke the rules. The question is: **why were the rules only applied to us?**

Why were we targeted — singled out, written up, publicly accused — while others doing the exact same things continued without interruption?

I have sat with this question for a year. And here is what I have come to understand:

It was never about the rules.

It was about *threat*.

We were a threat because we were building something that threatened the company's own plans. We launched a global health university at the same time they wanted to launch theirs. We became too visible, too effective, too independent. And in a system that rewards compliance over creativity, independence is the first thing that gets cut.

The double standard is not an oversight. It is *by design*. Rules are not applied evenly in systems that are driven by ego and control. They are applied to whoever needs to be removed.

I am not sharing this to tear the company down. I am sharing it because I know there are others who have experienced the same thing — who have been silenced, singled out, or made to feel like they were the problem, when really they were just *too big for the container*. And we were not the only ones.

You are not crazy. You were not wrong. You were not the only one.

And you are not alone.
